A little while ago I mentioned how the July issue of Vogue Italia was going to have an all black issue shot by photographer Steven Meisel…well the cover and a few images are finally released! The 100 page issue hits European newstands this Thursday and here in the US soon after. You can purchase a copy for $20 here.
The cover girl for the issue is Liya Kebede while the fold out features newcomer Sessilee Lopez, it girl Jordan Dunn and Naomi Campbell . There is reportedly a 20-page spread of Naomi, and also spreads by in demand (and one of my favorites) Chanel Iman and newcomer Dominican model Arlenis Sosa Pena, veterans Iman, Veronica Webb, Alva Chin, Pat Cleveland and Karen Alexander, as well as models Alek Wek and Oluchi among others.
The model that I was most surprised to see featured in the magazine is Tocarra….which may be one of her largest spreads to date, as well as a huge spread for a non-traditional model (I don’t like using plus sized although I totally get why they use the term in the fashion world). Photographer Steven Meisel decided to feature her in the issue after meeting her and thinking she was beautiful and could say something about weight in modeling.
Here are a few scans from the issue of Chanel Iman, Liya Kedebe, Naomi Campbell, Sessilee Lopez, and Tyra Banks. I love that each image has a different feel and cannot wait to see the full issue.
Currently my new screen saver, I looooove this picture and how Sessilee looks like Iman here.
I personally love spreads and covers from International issues of Vogue over American Vogue because they tend to be more edgy and artistic, so I was hoping for that with the July issue. Check out some past issues of Vogue Italia…am I the only one that likes the July cover but wishes that Steven Meisel went more in the direction of past covers? The covers theme seems to have a 30’s or 40’s styled flair and although the girls look stunning, I was hoping for more imagery.
